Forty-three percent of Americans approve of how President Obama is handling his job and 55 percent disapprove, according to a new CNN/ORC poll.
The approval/disapproval split is identical to surveys taken in early May and March and is slightly worse than a 45 percent/50 percent split in a poll taken from Jan. 31-Feb. 2.
Eighty percent of Democrats approve of how the president is handling his job and 87 percent of Republicans disapprove. Slightly more then one-third of independents approve.
Fewer than 50 percent of those polled approve of the way Mr. Obama is handling a dozen issues, ranging from health care policy to economy.
His best marks come on environmental policy; 49 percent approve and 45 percent disapprove. He does the worst on his handling of the federal budget deficit; fewer than one-third of voters approve of how he’s handling that issue.
Among respondents surveyed after Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki stepped down Friday, more than two-thirds say Mr. Shinseki should have resigned.
