President Obama has scheduled a Monday afternoon announcement on immigration, coming as the Associated Press reported House Speaker John A. Boehner has informed the White House there won’t be a vote this year on the issue.
Mr. Obama is currently fighting to stem a surge of illegal immigrant children across the U.S.-Mexico border, and on Monday vowed to stiffen border enforcement — a move that’s earning him criticism from immigrant-rights groups.
Monday afternoon’s announcement was scheduled for 2:50 EDT.
The Associated Press said Mr. Obama will take unilateral steps to change the way immigration laws are enforced, now that Congress won’t act.
