A New York University professor has developed a video game in which students can experience what it’s like to cross from Mexico into the United States — illegally.
Professor Marco Williams told The College Fix that his game — “The Migrant Trail,” not to be confused with the longtime favorite “The Oregon Trail” — is a chance for students to experience and truly understand the human toll of U.S. immigration policy.
“Play as an undocumented immigrant attempting to cross the Arizona desert and/or a border patrol agent attempting to secure the border,” a description for the game reads.
Mr. Williams said the game is already being used as an educational tool in a couple of schools with high Latino student populations, The College Fix reported.
The game is a spinoff of “The Undocumented” — a documentary the professor produced several years ago that aimed to expose the “humanitarian crisis” illegal immigrants face.
“And it is a crisis,” he said. “It breaks my heart that our policy — the United States immigration policy — has resulted in nearly 2,000 to 3,000 deaths along this corridor.”
