CARLTON, N.Y. (AP) - The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office says a 28-year-old woman is hospitalized in guarded condition after being run over by her own car.

Undersheriff Steven Smith says Alexis Thompson had just secured her 4-year-old son in a car seat, and her 10-year-old daughter was sitting in the front seat while the car was parked in a driveway around 8:15 Saturday evening in the town of Carlton.

Thompson was standing outside when the floor shift lever of the 1999 Dodge sedan was somehow moved from the park position and the car starting moving. Thompson apparently tried to reach in to stop the car when she was knocked to the ground by the open door and run over.

The car stopped in the road. Carlton was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
