WELCH, W.Va. (AP) - An August sentencing is set for a woman who pleaded guilty to a lesser conspiracy charge in the slaying of War Mayor Thomas Hatcher.

Rebecca Lynn Hatcher was scheduled to stand trial this week on a conspiracy charge. Media outlets report that Hatcher pleaded guilty on Friday to the lesser charge of attempt to commit a felony conspiracy.

Hatcher’s sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 22.

A McDowell County jury acquitted Hatcher on a first-degree murder charge last November. The judge declared a mistrial on the conspiracy charge.

City workers found the 72-year-old mayor’s body in his home on July 17, 2012.

Rebecca Hatcher was the mayor’s daughter-in-law. Her brother and co-defendant, Earl Click of Grundy, Va., was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy in February.
