KENAI, Alaska (AP) - A wetting rain Saturday nearly knocked out the Funny River wildfire that burned more than 300 square miles on the Kenai Peninsula.

The Alaska Interagency Incident Management Team says infrared surveys identified remaining hot spots that could smolder into the summer.

Officially, the fire is 58 percent contained with 708 assigned firefighters.

Wind with the rain blew down a tree on an all-terrain vehicle, and fire crews were pulled back to protect them from falling trees.

The Department of Natural Resources has lifted the burn ban on the Kenai Peninsula. Only cooking, warming and signaling fires are allowed. Within the boundaries of the Kenai Fjords National Park, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and Kenai Peninsula State Parks, campfires are allowed only in campgrounds with metal fire rings or grates.
