Half can’t name political party of their member of Congress, poll finds

Only about half of registered voters in a recent survey were able to identify even the political party of their own member of Congress.

Fifty-three percent correctly identified the party of their representative, 22 percent picked the wrong party and 26 percent said they didn’t know, according to a recent survey from the Pew Research Center.

Republicans were slightly more knowledgeable than Democrats. Fifty-nine percent of Republicans could correctly identify their representatives’ party, compared to 53 percent of Democrats and 47 percent of independents.

The survey conducted from July 8-14 of 1,805 adults included interviews with 1,420 registered voters and there was a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points for that group.
