A 3-year-old girl who was pronounced dead from a fever on Saturday reportedly woke up inside a coffin the next day during her funeral ceremony in the Philippines.
Police confirmed the incident to the Philippine Star after a viral video showed the child seemingly rising from the dead at a church service in Bayabas, Australian news website News.com.au reported.
Police Senior Inspector Heidil Teelan said the child had been taken to a local hospital on Friday after suffering a severe fever.
“During that time, the attending clinic personnel and physician confirmed that the young patient had no more pulse and was clinically dead last Saturday morning about 9 a.m.,” Mr. Teelan told the website.
The child was discovered alive only after a funeral attendee removed the coffin’s cover and saw her head move.
Mr. Teelan said the parents immediately gave the girl water and rushed her to a clinic. They are seeking treatment for the girl at a different hospital.
“We really cannot make confirmation on the status of the girl but based on the observation of the police personnel I deployed it appear the girl remained in a state of comatose in their house,” Mr. Teelan told the website.
