JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The state Chamber of Commerce and Industry wants Missouri lawmakers to consider expanding online learning.
In a report released Thursday, the chamber said the state should fund a statewide 100 percent online public school. Chamber President Dan Mehan says Missouri needs to take advantage of digital learning, and that online courses could help the state’s failing urban school districts.
Virtual school programs in the state went through a round of budget cuts during the recent economic downturn.
The report also recommends that Missouri high-school students complete an online course as part of their graduation requirements.
The study was conducted by the Colorado-based Evergreen Education Group.
