ROYAL OAK, Mich. (AP) - Nine Detroit-area firefighters on a training session walked out of a building under construction a few minutes before the structure partially collapsed.

Royal Oak Assistant Fire Chief Jim Cook tells The Detroit News (https://bit.ly/1cDuAH7 ) “there are a lot of guys walking around” Friday “saying, ’Thank you, God.’”

The partial building collapse happened around 9:30 a.m. at a neuroscience building under construction on the William Beaumont Hospital campus.

Cook says the firefighters who were there for a training session on the new building’s fire suppression system left the area only five minutes before the partial collapse happened.
