ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A hearing wasn’t held as planned Friday to decide whether to temporarily block the state from implementing new regulations defining what constitutes a “medically necessary” abortion for purposes of receiving Medicaid funding.
Two successive judges assigned the case recused themselves. The case was then assigned to Judge John Suddock. His office on Friday afternoon said a hearing on the case hasn’t been scheduled.
Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest has sued the state over the new regulations, and is seeking to have the court block implementation while the lawsuit goes forward. The regulations are scheduled to go into effect Sunday.
