MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - Two students at Mitchell High School have been suspended and arrested this month for bringing pocket knives to school.
Superintendent Joe Graves tells The Daily Republic newspaper (https://bit.ly/1igrV7m ) that there was no apparent threat involved in either case. But he says its standard procedure to suspend a student who brings a knife to school.
The male students both are 18, and both face a misdemeanor charge of possessing a dangerous weapon in school. The maximum punishment is a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Graves says times have changed. He says when he was a kid, a lot of students carried knives.
