VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - The man accused of fatally injuring two women in a Vancouver crosswalk and driving away has made his first appearance in Clark County Superior Court.
Bail for 27-year-old Brandon C. Smith of Vancouver was set Thursday at $1 million.
The Columbian reports (https://bit.ly/1jOqOi5 ) he’ll be arraigned Feb. 7 on hit-and-run and vehicular homicide charges.
Smith surrendered Wednesday evening to police. He was named as the alleged driver on Monday when his girlfriend and mother appeared in court to face witness tampering charges.
Investigators believe Smith was behind the wheel of a white pickup truck that ran down 24-year-old Raisa Mosh and 28-year-old Irina Gardinant on Jan. 19 as they crossed Vancouver Mall Drive. The women died from their injuries. Mosh’s 12-year-old son suffered a broken hand.
