YORK, Neb. (AP) - A sex offender released from a Nebraska prison last year has been given 50 to 70 years in prison for another child sex assault.

The York News-Times says (https://bit.ly/LnJFlF ) says 48-year-old Ross Shepherd, of rural Hampton, was sentenced on Tuesday in York County District Court. He’d made a plea deal after prosecutors dropped two of the counts against him. The newspaper says Shepherd acknowledged that he’d sexually assaulted a 7-year-old child in early August.

Records say Shepherd was convicted in 1997 and 2010 of sexually assaulting children. For the 2010 conviction, he was sentenced to five years. He was released from custody in March.

Because of those convictions, the two new counts of sexual assault of a child were enhanced to felonies that carried a maximum sentence of 50 years.
