WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - A Louisiana man has been sentenced to a year in prison after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the beating death of a Wheeling Jesuit University student.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1nsocqo) reports 24-year-old Jarrett Mathis Chandler of Winnfield, La., pleaded guilty Thursday and agreed to cooperate with Ohio County prosecutors in the case against a co-defendant.
Chandler also was fined $1,000. He will receive credit for time served since his Sept. 3 arrest in the attack that occurred three days earlier.
Prosecutors say the victim, 21-year-old Kevin Figaniak of Perkasie, Pa., was beaten during an argument and died the next day.
As part of his plea, Chandler agreed to testify against 22-year-old co-defendant Craig Tyler Peacock, 22, of Clewiston, Fla.
Chandler and Peacock worked in the oil and gas industry.
