FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - State police say the driver of a tanker truck carrying 11,000 gallons of gasoline that flipped over and burst into flames on a Fall River highway this week was going too fast.
Police announced Thursday that 46-year-old Lisa Korch of Danielson, Conn., was cited for driving at a speed greater than reasonable and a marked lanes violation.
The rollover and fire on Route 24 at about 7:15 a.m. Monday sent thick black smoke into the air, shook nearby houses, and brought four lanes of traffic to a standstill for about three hours. Several homes were evacuated as a precaution.
The driver was pulled from her cab by a passer-by and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The truck was heading north and preparing to exit at the time.
