UKIAH, Calif. (AP) - A woman with a history of keeping more animals than she can handle has been arrested after authorities took a child and more than 100 animals from her property in Mendocino County.
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/1nnGJUS ) that 59-year-old Patrice Elizabeth Phillips was arrested on her rural property near Ukiah while authorities were serving a search warrant.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Poma says animal control officials have been dealing for months with problems at Phillips’ property, where she kept cows, chickens, sheep, rabbits and dogs.
Some of the animals were underfed and dehydrated. She’s expected to be charged with animal cruelty and neglect.
Child Protective Services officials are also investigating. They removed a 13-year-old boy, believed to be Phillips’ son, from the home.
Phillips previously generated nuisance complaints from neighbors at her former home in Marin County.
