SEATTLE (AP) - Ridership on Washington State ferries rose 1.5 percent last year, compared with the year before.

The 22.5 million riders are the most since 2009.

The Kitsap Sun reports (https://bit.ly/1k7y4TP) the growth was in non-commuters. Commuter use declined.

Vehicle traffic in the San Juan Islands was the highest it’s been in a decade.

The Bainbridge Island-Seattle route remains the busiest run on Puget Sound, with more than 6 million riders last year.
