MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Utilities say power outages from ice and snow are limited mostly to south Alabama and the numbers are dropping rapidly.
Alabama Power says it has reduced power outages from about 16,000 early Wednesday morning to about 3,700. Of those, 2,100 are in the Mobile area and 1,400 in southeast Alabama. They are primarily due to ice collecting on power lines. A company spokesman says central and north Alabama are not reporting serious problems.
In Dothan, officials reported about 5,000 people served by the local electric utility were without power early Wednesday morning, but that had dropped to a few isolated spots by mid-morning. The problems were primarily due to ice collecting on power lines or ice-covered limbs falling on lines.
