NEW YORK (AP) - A New York City man is accused of fleeing from police after failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Police say the incident unfolded around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
As officers, assigned to a pedestrian safety detail, approached the car, the driver allegedly sped off striking a parked car and mounting a sidewalk. As officers approached a second time, police say the suspect accelerated toward the officers.
Police say the officers fired at the vehicle, which continued to flee. It struck a telephone pole before coming to a stop.
The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Jason Henry of the Bronx. Police say 100 oxycodone pills were found inside the car.
Henry faces criminal possession of controlled substances, reckless endangerment and other charges.
Information about his lawyer wasn’t immediately available.
