FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A Fresno County man with two previous arrests for drunken driving has been charged with murder and a third DUI in the deaths of three elderly sisters who died in a head-on crash.
The Fresno Bee reports (https://bit.ly/LpsrVd ) that prosecutors charged 56-year-old Tranquilino Ramos on Tuesday after tests showed his blood alcohol level was at least .15 - nearly twice the legal limit - when he slammed into the women’s small car on Saturday near Sanger.
The crash killed Jennie Monreal, Josephine Contreras and Delores Rodriguez, all in their 70s. A fourth sister, 67-year-old Elizabeth Rodriguez, survived.
Ramos was convicted of driving under the influence in 2012 and arrested on the same charge last summer. The Bee says he was supposed to appear in court the day before the fatal crash, but did not show up.
