PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a man is in custody in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident in Phoenix.
Phoenix police say 21-year-old Darren Darnelle Hanson called police about 35 minutes after Tuesday night’s accident and turned himself in.
Police say Hanson is being held on suspicion of leaving the scene of a fatal collision.
They say 35-year-old Matthew James Helmick was crossing Maryland Avenue about 7 p.m. when he was struck by a car, which left the scene.
Police say Helmick was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
They say the case still is under investigation.
