LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - A convicted felon has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2004 slaying of a West Texas woman in an attack linked to him through DNA evidence.

A jury in Lubbock on Tuesday decided the penalty for 49-year-old Clarence Lee Hooker, who earlier was convicted of murder.

Investigators say 78-year-old Mary Elizabeth Davis was stabbed to death in her Lubbock home.

Prosecutors say Hooker’s previous convictions included theft, sexual assault and attempted aggravated sexual assault on a child. Hooker in 2011 was serving five years in prison for failing to register at a sex offender when the DNA match was made to the Davis case.
