CALAIS, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say a 73-year-old man has died after the car he was driving left the road and struck a telephone pole.
Police say the man was driving southbound on Route 14 in Calais at about 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The man, who was alone, was pronounced dead at Central Vermont Hospital. His name has been withheld pending notification of family.
Speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash and the man was wearing his seatbelt.
