RENO, Nev. (AP) - A former Washoe County prosecutor, public defender and longtime law enforcement officer has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Reno police say they found 58-year-old Roger Whomes with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in the driveway of a Reno home about 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday. He was taken to Renown Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Police said in a statement Wednesday no foul play is suspected.
A native of Fallon, Whomes worked as a Reno and Sparks police officer before serving as deputy district attorney for 18 years. In 2010, he ran an unsuccessful campaign to unseat his former boss, District Attorney Richard Gammick.
