CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Flags are being flown at half-staff at the Wyoming Capitol and in Campbell County in honor of Rep. Sue Wallis.
Wallis, a rancher and daughter of former legislator Dick Wallis, was found dead Tuesday morning at a hotel in Gillette where legislators were holding a breakfast meeting. She was 56.
Gov. Matt Mead ordered that flags be lowered until the day of her internment.
Wallis was a Republican from Recluse first elected in 2007. She was a fiery debater known for sticking up for individual rights and the state’s agricultural community and had attracted national attention for her support of opening horse-slaughtering plants in the United States. She also wrote poetry which she read in the Legislature.
