MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says a Holland angler has caught a state record white perch in Muskegon County.
Aaron Slagh landed the fish Jan. 21 on Muskegon Lake. The fish weighed 1.93 pounds and was 13.25 inches long. The department says Slagh was ice fishing with a spoon.
DNR fisheries biologist Rich O’Neal has verified the record. State records are recognized by weight only.
The previous state-record white perch was caught on Lake Huron in Tuscola County in 2002. That fish weighed 1.88 pounds and measured 13.25 inches.
The catch was the second this month that shattered a record. Dale Blakley of Niles landed a 52-pound flathead catfish Jan. 12.
