BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - A truck driver who was being sought for leaving the scene of a pedestrian death on Interstate 90 in south-central Montana has returned to the state to face charges.

Sweet Grass County Sheriff Dan Tronrud says 45-year-old David Welk was booked into the Gallatin County jail in Bozeman at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. Tronrud said Welk is expected to make an initial appearance in District Court in Sweet Grass County on Friday.

Prosecutors believe Welk was driving a semi-trailer near Big Timber early on Sept. 30 when the truck hit and killed 81-year-old Elgie Bedford of Wasilla, Alaska. Welk became a suspect after his driving partner called the Montana Highway Patrol on Oct. 25 to say he had information about the crash.

Welk was arrested in Iowa on Jan. 23.
