PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - More than 400 supporters of the Portland Association of Teachers packed the Monday night school board meeting and loudly criticized Superintendent Carole Smith for the impasse in contract negotiations.
The Oregonian reports (https://bit.ly/1e4n5uD ) the crowd booed Smith during a budget presentation.
The school board infuriated the union by approving a district recommendation to put nearly $14 million in its reserves. The union says the money should go to classrooms and teachers.
Portland teacher contract negotiations are scheduled to resume Friday for the first session in two weeks.
