SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The National Weather Service says a developing storm will bring relief from weeks of air pollution along the urban corridor of northern Utah.
The sooty air is expected to start clearing Tuesday in advance of the storm arriving Wednesday. Up to two feet of snow was expected to fall in the mountains by Friday. Rain is expected for the valleys.
Soot counts from Salt Lake City to Ogden measured up to 60 micrograms per cubic meter Monday, nearly twice the federal standard.
Northern Utah has been under a health alert for much of January because of winter inversions.
Thermal inversions trap cold air in mountain valleys, allowing tailpipe and other emissions no escape.
