DANBURY, Conn. (AP) - Three people, including a former Bethel official, have died after a crash involving three vehicles on a Danbury street.

Police say the accident happened just before noon Tuesday on South Street near the Danbury/Bethel town line.

WVIT-TV reports (bit.ly/1mV1bJA) that a car driven by 45-year-old Edward Kish of Brookfield crossed a double yellow line and struck a vehicle containing 78-year-old Jane Shannon and her husband, 77-year-old William Shannon, a former first selectman in Bethel. Witnesses tell police Kish was slumped over his steering wheel before the crash.

The Shannon’s car then hit a box truck driven by 59-year-old Roy Bass, of Middle Island, NY.

Kish and the Shannons were taken Danbury Hospital, where they died a short time later.

Bass was treated at the hospital and later released.
