PEMBINA, N.D. (AP) - A Canadian man survived an accident caused by the weekend snowstorm near the border in North Dakota but was struck and killed when he went to help someone else.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says it happened Sunday afternoon on Interstate 29 just south of the Pembina Port of Entry.

The agency says 53-year-old John Geortz, of Winnipeg, got out of his vehicle to check on another driver involved in the crash and was struck by a tractor trailer.

Four other people were injured in a third vehicle.
