AMHERST, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts high school has closed for the day after administrators became aware of a social media post about a student possibly bringing a gun to school.

Officials at Amherst Regional High School say they closed the school Monday “as a precaution and to facilitate an investigation” by police.

The building is off limits to all staff, students, and the public.

On Friday, there was an anonymous post on a Facebook page from someone who claimed to bring a gun to school almost every day as protection against bullies.

Superintendent Maria Geryk and Principal Mark Jackson have scheduled a meeting at the middle school with parents for 7 p.m.
