GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) - A 28-year-old suspect in a fatal Nov. 2011 drive-by shooting near a Greenwood park in 2011 has accepted a plea deal to avoid trial for murder.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports (https://bit.ly/1mRZ4Jx ) that Alfred Lacy pleaded guilty this past week to manslaughter in the death of 21-year-old Cornelius Banks. Manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Lacy had initially been charged with murder and drive-by shooting.

Sentencing will be later.

Prosecutors alleged that Lacy and three others opened fire from a car into a crowd near McLaurin Park in the early morning hours of Nov. 8, 2011.

Prosecutors say Banks was not the intended target of the drive-by shooting. Two other men were wounded in the incident.
