LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky nonprofit organization has received the Consumer Reports Excellence in Consumer Advocacy Award in Washington.
Consumer Reports said in a news release that the Kentucky Equal Justice Center was honored for its work “as a watchdog and advocate for low income and other vulnerable residents of the state.”
The release says Kentucky Equal Justice Center helped make sure the Affordable Care Act was implemented successfully in Kentucky and helped make sure insurers would have to use 80 percent of premiums for care.
The center also partners with Maxwell Street Legal Clinic to provide legal assistance to low-income clients, particularly in immigration and employment cases.
The award is given to a small nonprofit organization that has had a positive effect on consumers’ lives. It includes a $25,000 cash prize to support the organization’s work.
