WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (AP) - An inmate who walked away from a work detail in Haywood County has been captured in Tennessee.

Sheriff’s Deputy Heidi Warren said 41-year-old Alan Scott Beck was found at a motel in Newport, Tenn., shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday.

He is in the Cocke County, Tenn., jail awaiting extradition to North Carolina. It was not clear if he has an attorney.

Beck had been taken to a Haywood County facility early Saturday and was reported missing several hours later.

Beck had been in custody since Jan. 13 on a charge of failing to pay about $1,200 in child support.
