PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a death row inmate at the state prison in Florence is dead of an apparent suicide.
Arizona Department of Corrections officials say 48-year-old Gregory Dickens was pronounced dead Monday at the state prison-Eyman complex.
They say the death is being investigated with the Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office
Dickens was sentenced of Yuma County on charges of first- degree murder, armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
He had been on death row since Dec. 17, 1993.
Authorities say Dickens and an accomplice laid in wait at a rest stop on Interstate 8 near Yuma for potential robbery victims on Sept. 10, 1991.
A man and woman eventually drove into the rest stop, were robbed at gunpoint and shot.
The man gave details to authorities before dying.
