STANWOOD, Iowa (AP) - A man has ended a brief standoff with officers in eastern Iowa.

Cedar Rapids television station KCRG says (https://bit.ly/1n6oTWq ) Cedar County deputies were sent to a Stanwood home around 1:15 a.m. Monday on a report of a domestic assault. They soon learned that an armed man was in the home’s basement.

Sheriff Warren Wethington says deputies helped five other people escape without harm from the home. Wethington says the man came out about 30 minutes later, carrying a loaded .45-caliber handgun.



He was arrested. His name hasn’t been released.
