RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - Riverside police are searching for someone who stabbed five dogs in a backyard, killing four of them.
Robert Carter tells the Riverside Press-Enterprise (https://bit.ly/1mPXJQu) that he returned home Sunday morning after caring for his grandmother to find his picket fence spattered with blood.
Some of the pug-Chihuahua mixes he bred were lying in the backyard. Two were dead, two so badly injured they had to be euthanized and one had a broken rib. Two others were unharmed.
Carter says the dogs were systematically pulled over the fence and stabbed, then left for dead.
Carter says he’d confronted a homeless man last week who was leaning over his fence and holding a knife. He says the man told him: “I’ll be back.”
Police are reviewing surveillance video from Carter’s property.
