VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (AP) - Police in suburban Birmingham say a wrong-way driver on Interstate 65 has died in a crash that left two others injured.
Authorities say a crash on Interstate 65 in Vestavia Hills shut down the freeway’s northbound lanes for nearly three hours on Sunday morning. Police told WBRC-TV (https://bit.ly/L9u4Gg ) that a silver Honda sedan was driving in the wrong direction along the interstate and crashed head-on with another sedan.
Authorities say the driver of the Honda was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the other car was taken to UAB Hospital and a third driver who crashed was taken to Brookwood Hospital and has been released.
Vestavia Police Lt. Brian Gilham says investigators are waiting on a toxicology report to determine whether drugs or alcohol factored into the crash.
