BENSON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say a man who was teaching a child how to operate a snowmobile has been killed after he drove over a snow embankment and struck a tractor-trailer in Benson.

Authorities say 48-year-old Mark Lussier had 10-year-old Brian Norton sitting in front of him around 3:30 p.m. Sunday when the snowmobile, which was being driven across a lawn, hit an embankment and flew through the air, striking the trailer-trailer.

Lussier, of Benson, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fair Haven Rescue Squad. State police say he wasn’t wearing a helmet but the child was.

The boy and the truck driver, 58-year-old Christopher Fionda of Swanton, Vt., are being treated for injuries. Their conditions were not immediately known.
