PHILADELPHIA, Miss. (AP) - The Neshoba County School Board is looking at changing its transfer policy so only students living 30 miles or more by bus from local schools could move other districts.
The Neshoba Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/1e101eD) that district Superintendent Tommy Dearing told board members the change would help curtail the number of transfers granted in the future.
No final decision was made. Board members say they will consider the proposal at its next meeting.
Student transfers must be approved by the school board on an annual basis.
Dearing says the school board also plans to hold a school-wide check on student residency next year.
Dearing says 212 students have transferred to Union schools this year and 95 students others have transferred to Sebastopol schools.
