CHICAGO (AP) - An 18-year-old suburban Chicago man authorities say was under the influence of drugs when his vehicle struck and killed a 65-year-old pedestrian has been arrested on felony charges.
In a Saturday news release, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office says Dustin Aranda of unincorporated Des Plaines is charged with aggravated driving under the influence causing death and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. His bond was set at $270,000.
Aranda was driving on Jan. 17 when his vehicle struck Janina Kasperek of Niles. The release says Aranda tested positive for marijuana ingredient THC and Benzodiazepine. Authorities found a bag with 27 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. His 18-year-old passenger was also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.
A listed number for Aranda couldn’t be located Sunday.
