GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy was killed when an SUV hit his motorcycle head-on.

The Colorado State Patrol, which is investigating the crash, says the driver of the SUV was trying to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone on Highway 93 near West 64th Parkway just after 10 a.m. Sunday and hit the deputy’s motorcycle.

The 83-year-old man who was driving the SUV was hospitalized with minor injuries. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, was on duty and wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
