ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 38-year-old Anchorage man has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for possessing a firearm as a felon.

U.S. Attorney Karen Loeffler (LEF’-lur) says District Court Judge Ralph Beistline (BYST-lyn) sentenced Patrick Leu Tauanuu (too-ah-NOO’-oo) Friday to 37 months in prison.

Tauanuu had been convicted of third-degree assault, a felony.

Loeffler says Tauanuu was found with two short-barrel shotguns. One was a 12-gauge shotgun and the other was a .410-gauge shotgun.

Loeffler says both had barrels of less than 18 inches. She says Tauanuu admitted that he had positioned one of the shotguns for protection.
