BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - Two former Beaufort County buildings inspectors are going to prison after admitting they took money from builders instead of doing their jobs.
The Beaufort Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1d2R5kr ) 67-year-old Harold Cosby and 63-year-old Larry Fields were each sentenced to one year in prison after pleading guilty to accepting bribes in exchange for building permits in 2012.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office says the county inspectors received more than $200,000 in cash and goods over a 12-year period for delivering permits and issuing final approvals without inspections.
After their arrests, thousands of permit applications were reviewed to find which properties were involved in false inspections.
