WILSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Shelby County Sheriff’s officials say a homeowner and an attempted burglary suspect have both been hospitalized after exchanging gunfire.
Authorities said in a release that a resident of a home on Alabama Highway 25 in Wilsonville was shot in the leg during a burglary Saturday night and was able to shoot the suspect before paramedics arrived.
Sheriff’s officials say both were treated at the scene, but the suspect was airlifted to a local hospital with serious injuries. Sheriff’s officials say two more suspects have also been taken into custody.
The identity of the suspect who was shot has not been released. Sheriff’s officials say the homeowner has been treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Wilsonville is about 35 miles southeast of Birmingham.
