YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Officers involved in three separate shootings in the Yakima Valley have returned to duty or soon will, though the cases remain under review.
The Yakima Herald reports (https://is.gd/yW5Agb ) that six Yakima city police officers and seven sheriff’s personnel have returned to work after a Jan. 3 standoff in Selah that ended in a fatal shooting.
Yakima Police Capt. Rod Light says two other officers, who have been on paid administrative leave after shootings at a car wash and at an east Yakima home, will return to duty next Friday.
Officer Casey Gilette fatally shot 23-year-old Rocendo Arias early Jan. 4 while investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle at a car wash. According to police, Gilette saw Arias sitting in the car with what appeared to be a gun in his hand. The gun turned out to be a replica that shot soft plastic pellets.
Officer Bryan Elliott shot and wounded 51-year-old Lorry J. Rabanal after being called to a report of a domestic dispute Jan. 16. Police said Rabanal was holding a rifle and refused orders to drop the weapon. Rabanal is in the Yakima County jail on assault charges.
