MOTTVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Officials at a Michigan grain elevator operation where an employee was killed are working with state safety officials following the accident, a company spokeswoman said Saturday.

Eric Rodman was loading rail cars shortly before 11 a.m. on Friday when he lost his footing and fell into a hopper car at the mill in Mottville Township, in southwest Michigan. The car was carrying grain, said Debbie Crow, spokeswoman for Ohio-based The Andersons, Inc.

Co-workers pulled Rodman from the grain and started CPR, but the 30-year-old was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now investigating the case.

“We are cooperating with OSHA and other authorities to determine the cause of this tragedy,” Crow said.

The mill is just north of the Indiana state line. Rodman was from Elkhart, Ind., according to St. Joseph County sheriff’s officials.
