EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A southwestern Indiana man faces a federal charge alleging that he provided false safety training certifications to coal truck drivers.

Federal prosecutors say 66-year-old Oril C. Dent of Winslow sold annual certificates of hazard training between October 2011 and April 2012 while operating a training business as an underground and surface coal mining safety instructor.

The federal Mine Safety and Health Administration requires coal truck drivers to receive yearly hazard training.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (https://bit.ly/1fegfS0 ) that Dent is charged with signing certificates of training for three coal truck drivers without providing that training.

He made an initial appearance on the charge Friday in federal court in Evansville, but was freed on supervised release pending the outcome of his case.
